This is my first time to install the SQL 2005 on my VPC for testing purpose, I don't recall that I did configure the sa account during the instalation.
Is their is any way after the installation to configure the sa account with a password? Please advice

Thanks

Just double click on it in Security..Logins and change the password.

If you want to use SQL authentication (not recommended) now, then you'll need to switch to mixed mode authentication (right click on server in SSMS, go to properties).

In the same topic, my first post.

If you switched to mixed mode authentication already, then what parameters are you using when you get the error?

Does the sa account work locally on the database server?

I think I am doing something wrong , when I right click on the server name and change the from windows authentication to SQL server authetication , it accept the change, but when I go to security login tab and double click on sa account and click to view connection I still see it that it is using the windows authentication so what i am doing wrong?
When I try to log on local on the sql server itself using the sql authetication using sa account I get the same error

I don't understand what you are doing. When SSMS prompts you for credentials, specify SQL authentication, then userid and password. There is no right clicking involved.

Logon as local admin and connect to sql server in ssms with windows authentication, right click the server then open properties. Go to security page, click on mixed authentication. Then try connect to sql with sa again.

ok let me try to explain what I am doing in few steps:
1- I log on to my SQL 2005 using windows authentication
2- RightClick the server name and open properties and go to security tab , change the setting to Mix mode " SQL server & Windows Authentication mode"
3- I reset the password for sa , and creat a new Admin account
4- Log off and try to log on again local to the server using the SQL server & Windows authetication mode using the sa or eithr the admin user account I get the following error :

TITLE: Connect to Server
------------------------------

Cannot connect to DC.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=233&LinkId=20476

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

As per Microsoft web site for thei error I have to use the SQl surface connection to configure the connection type to use local and remotly and i did do that and still the same problem any help please

Thank you so much

That is a network/config issue and not an account/access issue.

Try connecting via IP address or IP address,Port Number.
