Ok. Here is what I need to do: several computers on the intranet need to use a client program to access data from the server (a desktop)

Here is what is going on:

1. I am using Visual Studio 2005 c#.net 2.0
2. Sql Server Express 2005
3. I don't have IIS set up
4. The database is being shared from the c drive on the server (not sophisticated at all, but this is a one man operation!)

Questions:

1. Is IIS an absolute must to make this happen?
2. If not, a user pointed out that I can't use UNF to access the database. How do I set up the connection string to access the db on the server?

This is my basic connection string (local)

connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\MonzaDB\MonzaDB.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True;Asynchronous Processing=true"

Thanks for any help on this subject. I know basically nothing about NETWORK programming and database administration!

Do I need to provide the address of the machine? I saw this example:

"Provider=sqloledb;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Data Source=130.120.110.001,1433;Initial Catalog=MyDatabaseName;UserID=MyUsername;Password=MyPassword;

I understand that sql server listens on port 1433, and I see that in the string. Just not sure if this will work!

I guess he meant UNC

I connect to any sql server remotely.
You dont need to have any drives mapped!!! Dont use AttachDbFilename!
Just attach providing server name or IP address.

I recommend you to play with one SQL server before you not went too far,
and only them 'hook them up'

Yeah, I mean UNC. Sorry!

I'll get rid of the AttachDBFilename and try your suggestions.

Thanks
