Hm, I've heard sometimes SQL optimiser produces more optimal plans if there are some relationships defined, but I have never seen such cases personaly.On the contrary, usually relatioships slightly decrease the performace, because SQL server needs to verify them (but it is not a good idea to get rid of relationships)When Foreign key is not supported by an index, relationships can have a dramatics impact on the performance |

It's for data integrity rather performance tuning. |
