| The vendor of an OLAP application recommeded moving to 64 bits.We are going to do that. None of the DBAs in our shop have any experience with SQL 64 bit.I will be installing SQL 2005 x64 Standard Edition on Windows 2003 with 4 processors and 31.9 gig RAM. 1. Are there any any installation choices to be particularly careful of with 64 bit install?2. Are there special configuration considerations ?3. Are there specific functions I should be sure to test?4. Any hints on sizing tempdb ?I looked on MSDN, Technet, and Knowledge Base for articles along these linesand found very little.A Knowledge Base search showed a lot of issues that might pop up, but nothing about intial installation, configuration, and testing. |

| we run a lot of x64 stuff. My advice would be to not install any 32bit software on this system at all. Also, you should check with vendors of any 3rd party support software you use (mcafee, symantec, etc.) if their software is compatible with x64.We run mcafee EPO and the HIPS software that our security group mandates we run is not compatible with x64 at this time (just as an example).-ec |
