Hello,

I have been working as a SQL Server 2000/2005 db administrator (small-medium dbs), in the near future I am going to work as a DBA for large DB on SQL Server 2005 (200 - 300 GB and over) but I have not experences.
Do you have any suggestions, Recommendations or useful docs, books or web links and everything else to suggest me on how to administer large databases.

Thank a lot

Is the database OLTP or OLAP?

Hello,
yes I forgot ....at the moment it is an OLTP, but Data Warehouse (and later OLAOP) come soon....so both.

About backup/restore...what do you suggest?

Any other potential problem is welcome.

Thank

For backup/restore, I suggest purchasing third party software such as SQL Litespeed. We use it for all of our production databases. It reduces file size by 75% and you also get huge backup time savings.

For OLTP databases, I'd suggest getting up to speed on partitioned views and also federated servers.

Myspace.com runs on SQL Server 2005 and uses partitioned views across federated servers according to an article I read about a year ago.
