Hi All
I designed a maintenance plan in 2005 it create job in SQL Server Agent-->Jobs when i right click on job to check the properties it doesn’t give me the details of that job instead it open the window for new job which is not the case in 2000. Can some one there please let me know how to check the job details in 2005in GUI not in terms of T-SQL

every thing that we can see if a job is created through maintenance plan in 2000. eg. owner of the job, enabled, schedule etc...... my problem is when i go to properties of a particular job it opens another windows for the creation of new job instead of job in question.

That isn't what happens on my machine. Do you have sp2 installed on your client machine (service packs are not only for the database engine but also for client tools)?

You can see that when you click on the options on the left, in the Properties window.

Actually i have installed Express edition 9.00.3042.00 to monitor remote servers. i think express edition don't have this feature because i just logged on one of the remote server which have enterprise edition on it and it works fine.

Why don't you just install the client tools from the Enterprise edition CD so that you don't need the Express edition? That way you get the full set of features in the tools.

this proc will give you many details if the GUI is unsatisfactory:

exec msdb.dbo.sp_help_job (pass job name, id, or nothing to get details on all jobs)

for sql 2000,
SELECT b.name as job_name,c.Schedule,c.next_run_time
,step_name,subsystem,command,database_name
FROM msdb..sysjobsteps a
INNER JOIN (SELECT name,job_id
FROM msdb..sysjobs
WHERE enabled = 1)b
ON a.job_id =b.job_id
INNER JOIN (SELECT job_id
,(CASE WHEN freq_type = 4 THEN 'Daily'
WHEN freq_type =16 THEN 'Monthly'
WHEN freq_type =8 THEN 'Weekly'
END )as Schedule
,left(right('000000'+convert(varchar,next_run_time),6),4) as next_run_time
FROM msdb..sysjobschedules ) c
ON a.job_id =c.job_id

for sql 2005, remove the following code from the above script

,(CASE WHEN freq_type = 4 THEN 'Daily'
WHEN freq_type =16 THEN 'Monthly'
WHEN freq_type =8 THEN 'Weekly'
END )as Schedule
,

---- Code is from "http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Scripts/"

Tara if i install just ssms then it works fine but the moment i install SQL Express on same laptop i can't see job details. so inorder to view jobdetails i have to uninstall SQL Express. do u have any clue is there is a way to view job properties without unistalling Express edition. any help will be appreciated.

Because sql2k5 express doesn't have sql agent. Why manage sql2k5 in ssmse?

But how it works when i just install only client tools. moment i install SQL Express i can't see any thing. moreover i install the workstation components from SQL Server2005 standard edition. it means SQL Server edition affects the client tools or if client tools works independently then wht i couldn't see any thing in properties of jobs. i know express don't have agent then it should affect only express not rest of the servers.

please clarify.

You better to manage sql2k5 server (non-express) with ssms (not ssmse) to get all features.
