I would like to implement the following backup strategy in SQL Server 2000: - full backup is done once a week
- diff backup daily
- tran backup every hour
How should I approach this. Should I use a backup device linked to a hard disk file? Should I create a backup device for each type of backup (full, diff, tran) and schedule it. If I use a backup device how do I distinguish each backup for old backups.thanks |

Create a DTS Pkg to get the backups It'll distinguish each backup by date and time-----------------E!

priyakara, you may mean use maintenance plan instead of dts. rsum, better to backup to file directly. Easy to distinguish each backup that way.

Thanks. Since you can not do a diff backup with maintenance plans, is this a good way to go. Especially if I do a tran backup every 1 hour.

You can still use maintenance plan to do other things, just need your own code for diff backup.
